KHAN PORTER
CROSSFIT ATHLETE
“I am thrilled to be part of the LSKD team, having always loved their clothing. It’s perfect not only for my training, but also for when I’m chilling out and recovering too. In a year when I’m so far from home, it’s great to have an Australian team supporting me through everything.”
Khan Porter
One of the world’s top CrossFit athletes. Currently based in Iceland, Khan aims to top the podium at the 2022 Crossfit teams division.
• Six-time CrossFit Games competitor
• Mental health advocate and podcast host
• Member of the CrossFit Reykjavik ‘Super Team’
From a young age Khan always felt different, and at times he was bullied for being weird. During high school Khan found a love for sport, which led to him becoming a state rugby player and competing in the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships. It was in sport, Khan felt he had finally found acceptance.
After school, Khan studied journalism at Griffith University. It was then that he found CrossFit and fell in love with it, opening his own box in 2013. After only eight months in the sport, Khan qualified for regionals in 2013 and the Crossfit Games in 2014, going on to qualify an impressive five more times.
As someone who has experienced mental health struggles in the past, Khan hit a really low patch in 2015. His then partner and best friend staged an intervention leading to a misdiagnosis of bipolar. Although Khan was prescribed medication, he couldn’t afford therapy, leading himself to self-medicate. In 2017, he saw a new psychiatrist and was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression and made the brave decision to go public with his mental health battle.
Overwhelmed by the support he received, Khan found a new sense of purpose; to reduce the stigma surrounding male mental health and help people understand the relationship between mental health and performance. He is currently studying Psychology and Philosophy at The University of Sydney, training to become a counsellor. You can hear him dive into all things mental health and more in his podcast, ‘Weirdly Normal’.
Khan joining the LSKD Athlete Team is a perfect match that aligns with our 3 key pillars of sport, fitness and adventure. Khan embodies our values by pushing to be '1% Better Every Day' and he's a strong proponent of value 4/6: 'Move Fast Break Shit'. All the while building a caring and powerful community along the way.
Welcome Khan!
